This charming home in the Town of Ross in Marin County offered the challenge of creating a spectacular hillside garden while preserving all of the heritage oaks on the property.

Our goal for the design criteria was to create a "Parallel Universe" based on the writings of C.S. Lewis' The Chronicles of Narnia.
Generous use of wide trails allows guests to traverse the entire estate as they ascend to viewing areas of Mt. Tamalpais and the San Francisco Bay.
The use of stone retaining walls, seating and viewing areas, plus an abbey ruin lends a sense of timelessness to the garden.
The gurgle of water from the placement of fountains throughout the garden urges the guest to explore more of the garden while the placement of unusual topiary plants creates a feeling of 'another world'. A larger than life topiary lion greets the explorer along the pathways.
Ample shade provided by the California Live Oaks on the property allowed the liberal use of Camellias, Rhododendrons and Hydrangeas. Boxwood hedges frame the pathways.
Sunny planting beds allow the use of roses, dwarf citrus trees and also a unique hedge made of dwarf apple trees.
